A Temperature Gauge Question.... 200

Me again.....

While trying to get my 1986 240 road worthy I've noticed a problem with the temperature gauge.....

When it warms up, the gauge will go to the 9:00 position, (it's normal operating temperature position), but then all of a sudden will fall back to the cold position, (approximately 7:00).

After that it will once again climb to the 9:00 position and then within a couple of seconds to a minute will fall again to the 7:00 position.

It's almost like the gauge is operating with the opening and closing of the thermostat but I don't know that for sure. I did replace the thermostat right before parking the vehicle due to a heater issue, about a year ago.

If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Thanks,
Dave
