In today's fuel injection the temp sensor plays a main role in telling the computer how much gas to give to the injectors.

My 960 had a very high to low RPM's when the engine was cold. After a new sensor and new plugs, car runs nice and smooth.

Change your plugs, they probably got tooo much fuel.
