Temperature High after Cooling System Changed 200 1980

This is a different Volvo than the one I've discussed over the past few days.

It's been a long-term storage car, driven 30 miles over the past 11 years, but passed smog two months ago. The temperature gauge normally runs in the middle of the "N" or below it. In the past few start ups, it was a little higher, but within the upper middle of the "N."

Today as preventive maintenance I installed a:
new radiator;
new thermostat (180'F with air nipple upward) and gasket (old gasket deteriorated and air bleeder nipple was upside down);
new upper and lower hoses
50/50 5 year coolant (reused some (only 3 months old) and added new coolant)

On start up, the coolant level got too low (was hard to see) and the temperature gauge rose quickly. I shut off the engine, let it cool, then filled it up with coolant. I left the overflow tank cap off and squeezed the upper hose, which was warm (but not hot) to remove air bubbles. I forgot to turn on the heater, so I did that. For the second and third start ups, the temperature gauge was just above the "N," such that the white needle touched the very tip of the right part of the "N," or was 3/4 of the way up over the entire gauge. There are no leaks at any of the hoses or radiator and no smoke is coming out of the tail pipe.

I really dislike the temperature gauge reading so high and I want the temperature gauge to be within the "N" as it always has been. What can I do?
