battery tender junior- need a quick education 200

hi sages- need a quick critique on a decision. dont want to be verbose or impecunious which my enemies have called me. planning to purchase a battery tender junior from a parts store or ebay. single purpose is to maintain a charge on a battery in an old vehicle which is only used occassionally if my daily drivers crap out. figure this model charger is a quality item which is reasonably priced will last and do the job w/o letting the battery become discharged or will it evaporate the electrolyte or catch fire. am i on the right track or heading up a dead end on tobacco road? thanks tons oldduke
