I figured it out, no grinding..
For fitment, I had just grabbed the nearest loose caliper, which happened to be from the other side. The top and bottom of the caliper are nearly mirror images, but not exact mirror images. One end has a lightly different curvature to the ridge leading up to the mounting boss. It touched/hit/interfered on the backing plate. I thought it was caused by the new rotor: it wasn't.
One rotor may be slightly beyond runout spec, so I'll have that turned, probably both of them, since the green book gives a specification for disc surface texture at 3(x) & 5(y) micron (µm). That means the surface finish will be equal on both, at least until they are bedded in.
Brakelines are underway.
CopperNickel (cunifer) and a good flaring tool, or slow and careful and rework with a cheap flaring tool, replacing everything up to the distribution block. Converting all lines to male double flare and using Napa Part 36582 (1968 Chevelle and many others) for the flex hose in the front. This will not appear original, but if this car ever gets to a competition it will not win, except maybe for provenance. Put the original cone-nuts in a baggie.
