Bay Shore is 10 miles directly west of Patchogue. My brother used to dig clams on the Great South Bay (70's-80's) and sometimes I'd join him. In 1978 the bay was frozen over (22 inches thick) and I took my 122 wagon out on the ice (from a spot in Babylon) about a mile--then we hauled the equipment by sled to the legal waters. It's amazing how much heat a body can generate while working in 10 degree weather. -- Dave
