Anthony;
I would say that general cleanliness and smooth (and well lubed) function of linkages are the primary concern and goal...next is the synchronization...but it just doesn't take a tool like a Unisyn to check this, because the dashpot heights give the same indication as the little indicator of the Unisyn...simply remove filters and observe dashpot height...goal is for them to be the same (but don't make yourself crazy trying to get them identical at idle)... just similar is OK too at idle!
I invite you to read my SU Carb Service - Lite (and Expanded) write-ups here: http://sw-em.com/SU%20Carb%20Service.htm In it, I've tried to include my impression of what is critical and what is less important...this is the what I would call the "Experience Factor" which one develops after many years of "screwdriver time" with them...
I also have a "Training Carb"...clean and mounted on a nice wooden stand which we might need to have a session with...since your also in CT, it seems like wee should be able to set up a live SU training session...I believe I have your tele-no ...I'll be in touch...
Cheers
