Chipped a Tooth 700 1987

MrData -It helps to use correct terminology - from your posts I see you do not know. A standard shift model has a "flywheel" (heavy steel for clutch mounting and momentum) with a pressed on "ring gear" (the actual teeth). The ring gear is removable/replaceable. An automatic uses a "flex plate" (thinner steel plate) with a welded on ring gear. Those ring gears are not replaceable by themselves -- when bad the flex plate gets replaced. The transmission "torque converter" (bolted to the flex plate) takes the place of a heavy flywheel to achieve momentum (for engine smoothness). -- Dave
