Steering Rack U-Joint Splines 200

I spent today on my back getting the leaking steering rack out of my 1992 240 wagon.
The good news is that the old rack is out.
The bad news is that I'm having a terrible time getting the u-joint that connects to the steering wheel back on the splines.

On the u-joint I removed the bottom bolt and pried it open some. I haven't done anything with the top bolt/joint fitting.

I'll work on it some tomorrow. I'm guessing I need to loosen that top bolt to make it slide up and down.

Any tips? I'm trying to keep the steering wheel centered, but the splines are not even close to lining up right.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.
