high idle on new motor 900 1984

I have an idle of 1200-1300rpm on this new 93 B230ft in my 91 940T (lh2.4). I can return the idle to normal (900rpm or so) by turning the throttle cable spool slightly, or pushing the idle stop lever home (same thing really). Before I start tightening throttle rods or adjusting things I shouldn't, what is the correct manner in which to enable the throttle cable spool to return to its idle stop?
Thanks!
JD
