Engine ticking now wont start 200

I just starting noticing a noise coming from the engine last week, checked all my fluids and noticed I could use 1/2-3/4 quart more oil. Thought that might have been the culprit so I went to an event and came home. Car drove fine, then my girl friend went to take the car to work and it wouldnt start. Checked to make sure we had gas (in the low but not empty), checked the battery connection and noticed some corrosion so I cleaned it off (disconnected the positive and cleaned with wire brush) still with no luck. Then I remembered my check engine light was still on because I had not reset it when I replaced the coolant temperature sensor so I ran all test I could with no real results(probably because I disconnected the battery?). I checked the engine ignition coil and had spark. Any recommendations?
