So I have been working on my 1990 volvo 240 trying to figure out why it wouldn't start out of the blue. I have what appears to be dry spark plugs so I loosened the bolt on the fuel rail and gas started dripping out so I know fuel is being delivered to the rail but somehow not going to the plugs? Should I be worried about the fuel dripping out of the fuel rail instead of spraying? Or could the lack of pressure be from several crank attempts? I am running to the parts store to grab a noid light to test the fuel injectors and grabbing a can of starter fluid so I can be 100% sure that its a fuel problem by spraying some starter fluid into the air intake. My worry is that the FI ECU isnt grounding and allowing the signal to be sent for fuel injection. Can I fix the ECU? Is there anything else I should be checking that would cause no fuel getting to the plugs? Fuel pressure regulator maybe? Bad fuel injectors? I am pretty certain that the fuel pump (hmms) and the fuel relay (clicks) are both working.
I also ran the self diagnostic test with no issues showing but I did not get the 3-3-1 (port 2, pushed button 2x) telling me that the RPM sensor signal was ok. Does that mean its not sending the signal?
I also removed the ignition coil center lead with the lead in port 6 and cranked, the engine did not start but it did turn over then flashed 1-4-1 for the RPM sensor.
Am I doing something wrong on the port two diagnostic? Do I need to do something to activate the RPM sensor signal test to receive the 3-3-1 code or should it flash after the throttle test?
