Check the ignition components 200 1982

I'll jump in here at this late date--forgive me if I missed anyone else's similar suggestion(s). It's been pointed out that your FI system could be one of two types. It sounds to me like you have the mechanical K-jet system. There are no wires going to the injectors(?). This system relies on a cold start valve which sprays fuel for a few seconds while cranking to get going cold. It is also vitally important that the rubber bellows between the fuel distributor unit and the throttle housing is intact and seated properly.
You should find your fuel pump relay above the driver's knees near the steering column. It's about a 2 inch rectangle and maybe an inch wide with a number of wires going to it. Different years had different colors for the plastic housing. It will have 2 yellow/red wires at one terminal and one heavy red wire at another. The red wire supplies + to the relay. the yellow/red wires go to the tank and main pumps. Put a test light to the red wire to see that it has +. Next put the test light to the pump wires and crank the engine--the test light should light up while cranking. If you jump across from the red wire to the pump wires you should hear the pumps operating. If yes, let them run for 10 seconds or so to prime the system. If it doesn't fire up without pumping or other shenanigans I think it's likely your cold start valve isn't working. That can be checked by pulling the valve out--stick a container in front of it and crank the motor--it should spray up to about 5 or 6 seconds while cranking. If it doesn't your next step will be to diagnose the cold start system. -- Dave
