Hello,
I have a question about the wiring for the alternator for my 73 142.
When I bought the car, there had obviously been a problem with the wiring. There was a "Home Depot" 8 gauge wire running from the alternator directly to the positive post on the battery. I could see where the original wire had been cut at the harness. I assume it must have broken or had brittle insulation, so a previous owner ran the "Home Depot" wire.
I also had issues with the "amp" light staying on until the revs went up, and the dash lights / headlights flickered at idle. I decided a new alternator, voltage regulator, and wiring harness investigation where in order.
That brings me to my wiring question.
I pulled the harness from the front of the car. It houses the lights, alternator power, charging light, and I think the seat belt warning light wires. I got my wiring diagram from my Volvo Greenbook, and have everything figured out except the 8 gauge alternator power wire. This, as mentioned, was cut near the alternator, but also cut near the 4-pole battery junction block.
My question is, should this wire extend to the starter, as shown in the Greenbook wiring diagram, or should it connect to the battery junction block?
Sorry this is so long winded. Any assistance or any pictures of the wiring is greatly appreciated.
