automatic transmissions

hi sages- tough question to wit- whether to take the risk and get a used 240,740 rwd with auto trans. i know these are big risks in used cars. they are tough to adequately test. been soaked every time on an at repair. cost a fortune to repair. dyi mechanics cant really do much with them. one thing i always do when getting a used car is to research and forecastthe ease of repair and reputational reliability. noproblem with rwd clutch poppers. anticipating when wife will need another car. currently she wont drive a car with 3 pedals although she did from 17- 60. thinking of another volvo . how about some sage advice/warnings on the 240 at. thanks tons oldduke
