1993 240 Damp no start 200 1993

The vehicle: 1993 Volvo 240 Wagon automatic, 175000 miles well maintained.

Problem: Intermittent no start in damp weather. When turning over, it stumbles and then dies. You can smell gas. It did this today in the morning and when I came home at noon, I tried it again and it fired right up. The outside temp had gone from 32 deg to 55 deg and sunny. We had a heavy dew this morning. If temp is below freezing it starts fine.

Parts replaced: New distributor cap and rotor, new spark plug wires and coil wire.

Any suggestions on where to begin would be much appreciated.
