240 cruise control compatability

Hi,

I would like to retrofit a cruise control into my 1988 244 manual and am about to try and source the parts.

The system used from 86 to 89 is different from the one used from 90 to 93. My question is whether I can use the latter system on my car. Looking at the wiring schematic in Bentley (360-15) it seems that the systems have their own control unit and are not connected to the main ECU.

My other question is whether the latter system is noticeably better.
