Brake problems 200 1989

My 245 GL wagon brake light came on during a long fast run from the Midlands to the south coast UK. It was intermittent first then finally days later it came on continuously.

My mechanic centred the shuttle but the light came on a few days later.

These are 8 pot brakes at the front and one of the pots was seized and the pot could not be moved. I put the spare on upside down (it can be done)and with out realising tried to bleed the system with Easybleed. Got to said calliper and of course the nipples were in the wrong place. More over, one nipple was sheared!!!

At this point I handed the job to my mechanic. Two pots one each side where sized, so two replacement callipers and the brake warning unit(£103) were replaced.

OUCH! But the brakes are really good now.

Do make certain the rubber boots are intact every time you replace the pads. Plenty of copper grease in the right place.
