Which model to replace my 240 sedan? for a tall guy

I _might_ want to replace my 300K 1991 240 sedan in the next few months. Even though it runs OK, cosmetically it just needs too much work. The 240 suits me pretty well style-wise, though I'd prefer something with just a little more power (though not necessarily a turbo). I'm 61.

It's the only Volvo I've owned and I'd like to get another (used) one. I'd like opinions about a likely replacement for the 240- something that is somewhat DIY friendly, very dependable, good gas mileage, and appropriate for my 6'3" frame.

I am not very interested in wagons, or AWD.

I like the _idea_ of an SUV (maybe an XC60?) because I don't have to "fold" myself in, but they tend to be way over my budget and not great on gas mileage AFAIK. Besides, I'm single and don't need a lot of cargo room and almost never have more than one passenger.

I'm tempted to just look for another 240 that is in better cosmetic condition!

Ideas?

Thanks,
Keith Ostertag
