Dear OwenF,

Hope you're well. I've replaced steel wheels with alloy wheels. I use the Volvo torque specification: 63 pound/feet. This interchange has not been problematic, so near as I know. That is, the wheels seem secure and there's no corrosion on the studs.

I apply a nickel-based anti-seize to the lug threads and to the face of the brake rotor, against which rests the inner surface of the wheel. The anti-seize prevents corrosion (rust) on the brake rotor's face (the surface on which the wheel rests).

While front studs are different from rear studs, the now-superseded Volvo VADIS parts database does not show any different in studs, that relates to the metal, of which the wheel is made.

Stud replacement is not easy. The studs are pressed into the hub. On the front wheels, the ABS sensor ring must be removed, to access the studs. If a stud is damaged beyond repair, it likely would be easier to replace the hub entirely, as hubs come complete with studs and sensor ring.
