Ignition Faulters 1800 1973

Chris;

If you have the luxury of spare parts, I'd replace all Ignition components (including Distributor) one at a time...that would allow you to confirm (or discount) an Ign Sys problem by substitution...

There are probably multiple Condenser failure modes, with different symptoms, but if one was bad (voltage breakdown mode), symptoms would likely show up very soon after startup, and 20 seconds is not likely enough time for any component to heat up and fail (thermally caused breakdown)...

Question: When it does this little trick and you shut it OFF. If after a minute or so, you restart, what is action then? Same 20 sec OK then stumble, or stumble immediately?

Good Hunting!
