armoured cable 120-130

After the talk about armored cables and other threads I've read about the pros&cons of the 123 ignition I have a question. In one thread, it was stated that the 123 ignition needs a strong charge coming from the coil to work properly. That older armored coils may not have the umph required and that a new coil might be needed. I have a 123 and am now concerned about by coils function. Is there a way to measure a coil's output? If yes, what would the measured output of a new armored coil be vs one that has some years on it? What is acceptable? I don't remember just now what the 123 requires as far as output goes so I'd have to see about that.
