Gas tank replacement 120-130

Today, while doing the brake lines at the rear axle, I got a good look at my gas line which does not inspire confidence. To complicate things, rust has encrusted the fitting that attaches the line to he gas tank and if that isn't enough the fitting that comes out of the tank is set in a generous bed of, what I am sure, is JB WELD. When I go to disconnect the well rusted line from the tank, there seems a reasonable expectation that whatever the JB WELD is holding together will self destruct.

Any recommendations or experience for locating and purchasing a new tank?

What would you do to protect the new tank itself before installing?
