1993 940 Turbo ID, please? 900

Pics below. VIN: YV1JW8701P3089412 Mileage: 170k miles

Questions:

1. What brand of turbo is this? I think it's a Mitsu, but it doesn't look exact like some pics I've seen.
2. Major Volvo sites using VIN to search parts seem to be saying the original turbo was a Garrett.
3. Are the two turbos interchangeable? I've read the hoses differ.
4. If I want to try a rebuild, which kit do I need, and what is the best kit for the job?

Symptoms: Car runs normally when turbo gauge is out of the "turbo" range. At speed, the turbo intermittently does not come in when it should, but works normally at other times. Leads me to suspect one of the vacuum actuators or a vacuum hose. These do not come in repair kits. There is quite a bit of long-term oil seepage around the turbo. So far, no puffs of smoke have been noticed from the exhaust. Wife reported "metallic sound like someone throwing bits of metal into the cooling fan" but not hearing that now.

Plans: Waiting to get feedback from you guys. In the meantime, will replace vacuum hoses with properly sized silicon hoses I have on hand. Also, clean engine...
