Trailer wiring - powered? Bulbout disabled already. 700 1990

Howdy folks.

Getting ready to install my hitch and tow a smallish trailer to Portland,
OR from Arcata, CA.

I need to add in wiring for the trailer lights. I've removed the bulbout lamp from my cluster because it has never ever gone off after years of trying to finesse it. In short, I don't care about the bulb-out sensor.

Is there any other reason to run a powered adapter? Am I going to make my own lights too dim or melt anything if I add in trailer wiring without power?

Cheers!
