Strange problem 200 1993

Thanks kittysgreyvolvo for your information about brickboard.com. I would like to thank Mr.Stenberg too. With his website, I always find very valuable information and suggestions from other Volvo lovers to keep my 88 240 running.

I would like to share what I have learned from my 240 transmission problems, which have been solved by doing the following.

Clean Air Mass Flow sensor regularly: After cleaning this sensor at the first time (never clean for 20 years), I could feel a much better shifting in transmission (don’t believe it, give it try).

Replace transmission mount if necessary: After replacing the sagging rubber mount, my transmission came alive (I had a rough shifting problem, not slippery).

Change transmission fluid regularly: After changing ATF, I always add some Lucas Transmission Fix (about 1/4 bottle), which lubricates parts and provides a smooth shift (highly recommend).

Without doing these, we almost ditched our 88 240 in 2007 because we thought we had to spend more money to rebuild transmission.

Actually, we bought a new car in 2007 before solving the transmission problem. But we still enjoy driving 88 240 everyday and we want to keep it as long as we can. Our 240 has original radiator, starter, alternator, transmission, and engine.
