Interior smell

Hope you folks don't mind, this is a little off topic but still applicable to older Volvo's...:)

I am selling my elderly parents 2002 Passat for them. Problem is that the car sat for months and the interior has a moldy smell. Found a little mold below the driver's seat but that's it. I have shampooed and vacuumed the rugs to no avail. Also air it out as often as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions for removing this smell? After shampooing, it now smells like a combination of rug shampoo and mold!

Thanks for any help!
