windlace mounting 444-544

I am in the middle of putting my 544 back together. I will be replacing all the windlace around the doors. The windlace is stapled into some kind of fibre strip that is set (actually nailed) into a groove around the door opening. I was looking to replace this stuff because it is brittle and missing in many areas. Does anyone have experience with sourcing a material to replace this and best way to secure it in the groove?

Dean
