Crank Angle Sensor

Today I spent quite a few hours changing the Crank Sensor in the registered car with the spare from the spare parts car. The insulation of the suspect one had disintegrated leaving bare earth wires and foil flopping about. Amazing that the car even ran this way at all. I noticed a tiny crack at the base of the insulation on the replacement so I wrapped the whole lead carefully with good quality electrical tape before installation.

I had a couple of issues. Firstly the placement of the bolt hole on the swap unit was very slightly further from the base of the sensor, so I used a chainsaw file to slightly elongate the hole to allow fitment.
But after a couple of very uncomfortable hours trying all kinds of ways to turn that little bolt to get it started in the thread I gave up and ground a tapered end on it to aid the process.
This was the answer and I'm happy to report that the car then started and ran easily.
I also managed to swap steering wheels after making a tool from hell being a chopped off socket welded onto a tube to undo the big centre nut. This worked well.
Two major challenges remain, firstly the replacement of the windscreen, which is good on the spare and I think it may be possible to get off without damage. Secondly the large rear bush that the rear trailing arm pivots from on the left side of the car needs doing very urgently.
I was chasing the left side clunk for ages, replaced the front strut to try to fix it, sounded like it came from the front, but then after reading a thread somewhere, I found the offending bush, rubber almost completely missing with a bolt flogging about in there for every bump.
The windscreen is badly cracked but almost worse, it was leaking along the left side, so rain would always drip directly onto the fuse box with obvious consequences. I have mitigated this temporarily till I get a new well sealing screen, by injecting windscreen sealant in the gaps and also fitting a plastic bag over and around the fuse block, inside the trim and the cover.
This seems to be keeping the fuses dry for now.
I can hopefully see a reliable car coming up soon for my son who is a muso and doesn't compute with car repairs but has affection for the Brick.
