Aw 71 transmission removal

I have been feeding a leak coming from the front seal of my tranny and since the wife is going away for the next few days I have decided it is time to drop the tranny and take care of my 240 named Ula. For the sake of saving some time can I get away with dropping the tranny without taking off the catalytic converter? I see the the bracket for the head pipe that has to come off but... I would love to stop there and leave the exhaust alone. On the plus side it is a new exhaust so disrupting it wouldn't end in tears but I only have a few days for this project.
