Temp gauge fluctuation 200 1985

The NUT is where?

Oh ok, I would put the blame back there too, if I could! (:-)
I know there are nuts holding the steering wheel in two ways as well. (:-)

As far as pressure, there really should not be all that much as the coolant is held below the 212 mark degrees where the change of state occurs into gas or steam.
The thermostat is192 degrees.

The amount of pressure should always be less that it's relief pressure or otherwise we would be always losing coolant from evaporation.

Just a pound or two pressure raises the boiling temperature of water several degrees per PSI.

This is why when you release the cap, the excess heat jumps or flashes water off to steam at the surface and you get a temporary geyser!
Especially with these today newer radiators with very narrow neck openings it can be hazardous.

Someone at Volvo was thinking about safety, in my opinion, with a wide neck recovery bottle and those smaller hoses from the radiator. The coolant in the recovery bottle is cooler being remote.

I hope that answers your thoughts on where or what the pressure should be.

Phil
