no crank no start but can jump at starter 700

Hi All,

My car is a 1990 740 turbo wagon. I am able to start my car at the starter by placing a screw driver on the starter hot and solenoid post.

So I know the problem is not the starter.

I also put in a neutral safety switch for good measure (although I wasn't getting the classic symptoms).

The car had an ignition switch put in about 6 months ago. And my battery is new.

I am thinking that the wiring is bad.

Does anyone know how the power travels. It seems like it probably goes down to the neutral safety switch first so I was thinking I could test that socket (if I knew what did what). And that would let me know if the problem was between ignition and neutral safety switch or after the safety switch. I was thinking from there I could trace the wiring. ?

Does that sound like the way to do this?

Thank yous
