Temp compensator question (high speed and slow traffic) 200 1992

Good day to all. I looked and did not find the answer.

I removed the temp compensator a while back. Normal is that sometimes it stays dead center on the dial, sometimes it rises a bit.

It is super hot here in the Southeast this summer. Some info ..

1) When driving at a high rate of speed (above 65) the temp will creep up a bit, sometimes to about 9:30 on a clock ...(count the gauge as 1/2 of a clock :))
2)When stopped in slow traffic, it will rise a bit higher ...to about 10-10:30, making me really nervous.

So, I am thinking the temp rise in this heat at high speed is normal, seeing the temp comp is gone.

And I am thinking that my fan clutch may be getting a bit weak (not necessarily bad), seeing it rises a bit more more when I am in slow or stopped traffic.

Does this sound right?

Thanks for any input. I just hate replacing parts when not needed.
