Have not yet reached the stage where I've connected a trailer. The trailer is not mine, and I only assume my kid's popup uses a pair of 1157 lamps much like every other small trailer our 240's pull. And yes, I believe 1157 lamps pull 2.1A by spec, but it looks like this converter limits the total current (both lamps) to 2.1A. The literature seems to say they need to sell us a powered converter if there's more than one 1157 in our trailer. :-)
In the past the converters worked for us. This one is different. I can make the distinction, because I use this lash-up to test the trailer lighting long before actually hitching anything.

One thing Phil got right for sure was his prediction I would be going back to the store. I did not want to. I need to pass a lot of cows to get to Walmart. But go I did, and I bought another identical converter just to rule out a single-unit defect. Also, I picked up a pair of 1157-equiv LEDs, which now, after checking out the second converter on the bench, seem destined for the popup we're talking about. I was really just wondering had anyone else encountered this need to switch trailer lighting to LEDs on account of these new converters.
I added the LEDs to the test harness temporarily...

Then re-confirmed what I had seen on the one installed in the car, using the second example.

And proved the LED swap in the trailer would allow it all to work as advertised, but not unless.
