is the rear window trim in the rubber gasket seal metal or plastic?

i'm having my rear hatch window replaced. the window man said that the little trim that fits in the rubber gasket is plastic, and when removed, typically it breaks.

i thought it was metal, and it is discontinued from volvo.

he's using a different gasket than the one came with the window. he said it will work because he will use urethane on the window to adhere the window to the metal trim, like the front windshield.

i would like to use the new volvo gasket, and the trim piece keeps the gasket tight. without it, the window will fall out, he said.

he replaces all the windows for a local dealer who sells astin martin's, mb, lotus and volvo, so i'm sure he knows what he's talking about. life guarantee he said.
