940 Turbo,starts and dies 900 1993

Greetings, both of the 940's are down. I haven't gotten the speedo to work on this one yet and now I have another issue. The car will start then die. It will rev a bit if you give it some throttle then fall flat on it's face. I went out today and it started up,drove it around the yard a bit,but the check engine light is on ,not the service reminder but the actual check engine. I do not want my daughter driving it until I'm sure I have isolated the issue.
