Gearbox problem M41 1800

I bet one of the synchros' engaging 'dogs' slipped out of place. This happened to me recently, with considerable effort I was able to get it into 3rd gear but could not get it out of 3rd to save my life. The little slipped dog was obvious once I was told what to look for. It's very easy to let the dogs slide out of place when you are assembling the tranny.

Here is a good write up of a rebuild with lots of pictures:

One of the lessons I learned was to make sure and shift a rebuilt tranny into and out of each gear, not just 1st and 2nd, before you install it.

Good luck! - Stu
