brake failure and shift light 200 1988

Hello, about a month and a half ago the battery went dead in my volvo so I parked it till I could afford a new one. I just got a new battery put it in this weekend and now my brake failure light is lit up and my shift light.

I do want to mention that my shift light wasn't working before the battery change and never let up. if I have the key on I can press in the clutch and it goes away but let the clutch out and it comes on. also it always stays on regardless of the clutch or gear position.

I did check the brake fluid it still looks clean and too the top of the resivour, and brakes feel normal. I checked the back of the dash unpluged the wire to the shift light plugged back in and cleaned the number 16 and number 9 fuse.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Devon
