water pump install 120-130

I'm putting in a new waterpump and thermostat. The water pump uses a conventional gasket in the back so no problem there but the oring sealing system is weirding me out. The two steel water lines just press into the water pump housing using the appropriate o rings, that seems simple enough. Should the o rings be lubed with something before insertion? KY jelly perhaps or something less provacative like teflon paste? I'm afraid to put something that will eventually deteriorate the rubber in the rings.. Then there's the two on top which are chosen according to the space between the pump and the head. I assume I'll have to push upward while I line up the bolts, is that correct? Are these o rings dressed with anything? Any tricks or tips?
