Rapid Flashing Turn Signals (both front and rear)-solved 900

Driving yesterday I noticed that the bulb out light was very slightly illuminating in concert with the rapid flashing of the right turn signals.

When getting home I: Removed the right rear taillight assembly (station wagon) and used a brass brush on all of the connecting metal surfaces. I also brushed the tabs on the bulb holders. Reassembled and had the following conditions. Brake lights work. Tail lights work (right side was not working yesterday). Left turn signals OK. Right turn signals rapid flashing of both front and rear (same as before). Backup lights work.

I activated the 4-way flashers and noticed that they flashed with the correct slow rate. However, further inspection showed that the right front turn signal was flashing in the opposite mode, i.e. when the other three were on, it was off and when it was on the other three were off. Hmmm...

I removed the right front turn signal assembly and removed the bulb. It seemed to have some slight corrosion on its contacts so I brushed them and sprayed some contact cleaner on them and into the connector. Reassembled and now I have proper slow flashing on turn and 4-way.

Not sure how this solved the problem exactly but the moral of the story is to check out both ends of the car. Since I had other issues with the right rear I was concentrating on it.
