New Nissen radiator with cut frame rails, themroswitch Q. 200

A week ago the upper neck broke off just after leaving the freeway and most the coolant sprayed out. Later that afternoon I ordered a new radiator for my 1990 240 Wagon. The OEM radiator did not have a thermo switch, but the one I ordered does. It is always an option when ordering a radiator so some models must use it. I may use that to run an electric fan to help the A/C one day.
I am curious which 240 models came with a thermoswitch?

The new radiator, a great deal at Rock Auto, arrived last Friday and the hoses on Saturday. I thought I had this project on track to be done over the weekend. I installed a new water pump yesterday, cleaned the air filter and replaced the warm air pipe today, and then unboxed the radiator. I was shocked to find that the frame rails on both the top and bottom were cut through. The width of the cut suggests a hack saw was used. The unit appears brand new otherwise. Have any of you seen anything like that before?

I wonder if it is the way units that don't pas QC inspection are "marked" for the bin? Or maybe it was already returned for some other defect and the warehouse accidentally shipped it out again. Now I am stuck waiting for Rock Auto customer service to contact me to arrange a replacement.
