Yep there is not much around.
Volvo probably has the information but have no incentive to issue it out.
Maybe a real good Volvo representive could prod some one in the archives chain to locate production information.

Another possible solution or work around is possible.

A list could be made with the efforts of many people.
It's something that might be accomplished through club members around the world.
I have four numbers in the original cars and one engine that I know is out of a '90 car.

People would have to submit their engine numbers and year make.

Easy to read on the top of the 4cylinder. Small pad up front by the valve cover.

I counted it was about page 22 out of the 1200 pages of information. Too much scrolling for me to check out end to end!

In lots of cases members know if their cars have their original engines or not.

A voluntary list could be complied and the approximate break list formulated between years and would align to groups.
We could even determine how many are in different countries. Even Volvo cannot track where they are today!

By looking through some sequences it would be possible to find your number within a set of numbers on either side.
That way you or anyone else could extrapolate their year date. The Model type A - F being included in the sort out. Useful overall information like what cams where used for Turbo or Naturally Aspirated engines and their country they were built for? Some cars were special ordered through sales programs directly out of Sweden.

Might be a good overall "collective information project" for the BrickBoarders to participate in. Like FAQ's.
