Gotta goose it 200 1985

When I start the car my volt gauge needle doesn't rise unless I tap the gas pedal (revving quickly to about 2000 RPMs) then the gauge reads around 14 plus volts. It stays around 14 thereafter even at idle. This occurred the last couple months with the original alternator and now with the Bosch reman I recently installed. Your thoughts?
Thanks,
