brake and running lights problem 200 1989

Greetings friends. 2 problems with old faithful '89: First, my brake lights quit working. Checked bulbs and fuses, all intact. Meanwhile, third brakelight in rear window works fine. Second problem is that rear running lights work on and off, both sides. I have the sliding pin type connectors that attach to a circuitboard. When I jiggle the connections, the lights come on but do not stay on very long. Seems like something is interfering with lasting connection. I tried cleaning the pin connectors with alcohol but no luck. The front running lights operate fine as do the backup and turn signal lights. The car sits for long period of time (months) without being run which might contribute to the problem if there is an issue with oxidation. Any suggestions?
