oil leak from egr 200 1993

I have a 93 240 wagon I am trying to get on the road. There is a small oil leak coming out of the egr pipe where the metal pipe enters the exhaust manifold. It was my understanding that the erg should only carry gases, not oil, so this is a bit confusing. I have cleaned the flame trap and was able to clearly blow through the breather box with a tube and feel air at the oil cap so I am assuming that is not the problem.

Where the pipe enters the exhaust manifold there is a threaded nut where the leak is coming from. When the car is hot it will smoke from the nut and if I feel under the nut it is covered in oil. I don't seem to have a tool that can get into that spot and tighten down the nut (if indeed it can be tightened).

My other volvo doesn't have egr so this is a new one for me. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

John
