turn key, no crank 140-160 1972

I'm currently fussing with a 1972 164. This morning, I went out to start the car and the first turn of the key it tried to crank but didn't start up. Now this isn't much of a surprise, it usually wont on the first turn. Queue second crank, I turned the key and lights come on but no crank, I hear a very faint buzzing but no attempt to turn over, the car worked fine last night and had no issues on its day trip this weekend. I suspect the starter has finally given up. Soon I will be heading to the Lair of the Walrus to hunt down a replacement is there anything else I should be checking?
