Steering Wheel / Airbag Help!!! 200

It has been a while since I have posted. I decided to replace the steering wheel on my 1990 Volvo 240 Station Wagon (SRS) because the old one is spongy. I found one and decided to tackle the job in an afternoon.

I started on the job only to find out I may have gotten in over my head, but now, I am stuck and have to fix the problem.

I got the SRS Pad / Horn Button unscrewed with the Torx-30 wrench. I looked down into the chasm and got really confused and scared, so I decided to put everything back together. Not problem, yet. After I got it all out back together, I noticed my horn did not work very well at all. I took it all back apart and while I was cleaning the contacts for the horn, the BIG ORANGE WIRE attached to the back of the SRS Pad came out. It looks like it just snaps back into place. I don't know.

My questions. Have I hurt anything too badly? (I know it is 25 years old, but I still treat it with kindness). I now have the SRS / Horn Pad off because I was afraid the airbag might release if I tried to stick it back on. During this, I had to move the car and the steering seems REALLY strange (tight/then loose).

I would like to continue to the job and finish replacing the steering wheel myself, but I need some assistance / guidance. I am very mechanically inclined, except I do not know the locations of the most of the parts I have read about (clock spring, etc.)
