Actually, I was playing Art's Leslie Neilson character from "Airplane" with the don't call me Shirley bit.

No one knows more about 240 electrical stuff than Art. I do know that the grounds for my headlights (940) are up at the front of the fenders and do cause many issues. I believe, the brake light switch operates by grounding the the circuit so it could be creating an alternate path to ground for the headlight relay...but not the headlights themselves. this is assuming your headlight turn off with with the ignition as all 240's from 1992 in the US.
