1992 20 wagon with 232k. So a few weeks ago I’m at work and get the usual phone call from the Mrs – car’s not running right. It’s running rough “chugging”, or having a hard time starting and when it’s acting up the A/C and windows don’t work. Checked codes; 2-1-4 on socket #6, replaced CPS, everything hunky dory. Then last week get another call, same symptom, car had died and she said it wouldn’t start. Drove to the car, started it up (took some cranking), it ran rough and had to keep the throttle open a little to keep it running until it warmed up. Checked codes - none. So I drove the car all week and gave it an Italian tune-up. Other than running a little rough at start up (sometimes) it ran and idled fine, except one time the overdrive light wouldn’t go off unless I switched off the ignition and re-started it. So today she says the car won’t start. Came home and started up the car – it took some cranking and after it started all the idiot lights were lit like the battery was dead - they faded out after the car warmed up a little. And the overdrive light was on. Checked codes: 2-1-4 on socket #6, 1-1-1 on #2. Battery is 12.54 volts, alternator 13.6+. So this has got to be some weird intermittent electrical fault and I’m not sure where to start, any ideas (not involving a Colt 45)? Thanks in advance!
