Hi Eliot,

Yes, you need to remove the fan.

1. disconnect battery
2. remove fan
3. remove fan shroud
4. remove air filter box, air intake & air mass meter if you want more room
5. remove belly pan
6. loosen power steering pump belt
7. loosen & remove AC belt
8. loosen & remove alternator belts

The Alternator belts go in first and come out last. It's a doable weekend job for first timer. You are now one step closer to changing your own timing belt if you haven't.
